How to Make Ginger Water: 9 Ginger Water Recipes for Weight Loss

Ginger is usually found in Southeast Asia. It is a common food ingredient and it is commonly found in drugs all over the world.

Ginger water, also popularly known as ginger tea, is one of the ways to enjoy the benefits of ginger.

1. Body Cleansing Lemon Ginger Water

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups Water (1l/1 quart, filtered or bottled)
  • 1-1.4 oz. Ginger Root (30-40g)
  • 1 Lemon (Medium-Large)

How to Make It:

Wash, peel and cut the ginger into chunks. Put it into a jug filled with water and refrigerate overnight.

The next morning, pour the water into a cup or kettle, then heat it till it is lukewarm. Squeeze in lemon and drink it before breakfast.

Drink it throughout the day cold (or lukewarm if preferred). Always squeeze in lemon right before drinking.

2. Turmeric Ginger Water

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups Water
  • 1 tbsp. Ginger Grated
  • 1 stick Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Ground Turmeric
  • 1/4 cup Lemon Juice
  • Honey Optional

How to Make It:

Put a pot or kettle on a stove, add water and let it boil.

Peel and cut the ginger into chunks, add the ginger, cinnamon and ground turmeric and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.

Turn of the stove, add lemon juice and honey (if you want). Sieve out and serve hot.

You can also add coconut milk or any other low-fat milk, but you will skip the lemon juice if you add the milk. You can serve this chilled.

3. Lemon, Basil and Ginger Water

Ingredients:

  • 2 lemons
  • 5 ginger coins
  • 3/4 cup basil leaves, loosely packed
  • 3 tbsp. honey
  • 9 cups boiling water

How to Make It:

Cut the lemons in halves and squeeze the juice out into a large cup or jug, remove the seeds.

Add the cut halves into the jug, peel and cut the ginger into chunks and put it in the jug and add basil.

Boil water and pour it into the jug, add in the honey and stir. Let it steep until it is cool, sieve it and serve with ice.

4. Orange-Ginger Water

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups of water
  • 4 green tea bags (see Tip)
  • 1 (1 inch) piece fresh ginger
  • 1/4 cup of orange juice

How to Make It:

Add water to a pot or kettle, put on the stove and allow it to boil. Turn off the stove.

Peel and cut your ginger into chunks, put in the ginger and tea bags into the water.

Cover it and allow it soak for about 4 minutes. Remove the tea bags and thrash them.

Squeeze out orange juice and add it in. you can sieve or leave the ginger chunks in to get more flavor then serve.

5. Carrot Apple Ginger Water

Ingredients:

  • 1 large apple, cored and chopped
  • 5 Carrots, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 inch long ginger (Peeled and chopped)
  • 1/2 Lemon or Lime
  • 3/4 cup Water

How to Make It:

Wash carrots and apple and ginger in clean running water and dry them.

Cut apple into small or medium pieces and remove the core.

Cut the apple and carrots into chunks, and throw out the core.

Add about 3/4 cup of water into a blender jar add in apple pieces, carrot pieces, and ginger and blend until it is smooth.

Put a clean cheeses cloth over a bowl and pour the blended mixture, hold the cheesecloth and squeeze out all the liquid and thrash the pulp.

Add lemon juice, stir and serve.

6. Dandelion, Pineapple and Ginger Water

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 a pineapple peeled
  • A generous handful of dandelion leaves
  • About 2 inches of ginger
  • 1 cucumber
  • 2 celery sticks

How to Make It:

Juice out all the ingredients using a juicer, or blend it all, till it is smooth and then sieve out the pulp and serve.

7. Mango Ginger Water

Ingredients:

  • 1ripe mango, peeled, seeded and chopped
  • 1 cup crushed ice.
  • 1⁄2 cup cold water
  • 3⁄4 teaspoon peeled fresh ginger

How to Make It:

Add all the ingredients in a blender, blend till it is smooth.

Then sieve out the pulp and pour the puree into a cup.

8. Hot Garlic Ginger Tea

Ingredients:

  • 3-4 fresh garlic cloves – chopped, grated or minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger
  • 3 pieces of dried astragalus root – optional
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon chips (optional)
  • 4 cups boiling filtered water
  • 1 organic lemon, juiced
  • 2 tablespoons honey or grade B made organic maple syrup

How to Make It:

Wash, peel and cut the ginger into chunks. Add water to a pot or kettle and let it boil

In a jug or cup add the garlic, grated ginger, astragalus root and cinnamon chips (optional).

Add the boiling water into the jug then cover and allow it soak for 30 minutes.

Sieve it then add lemon juice, and honey (optional). You can serve immediately or refrigerate.

9. Kale, Apple and Ginger Water

Ingredients:

  • 3 large kale leaves
  • 1 medium apple, quartered and cored
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 3 stalks of celery
  • 2-inch piece ginger

How to Make It:

Add all the ingredients into a blender and blend till it is smooth.

Sieve out the pulp, then stir the liquid and then serve.

Conclusion

Like most herbs or supplements, ginger might interact poorly with any other medication.

However it does not have any side effects, but if it is taken in excess (more than 4 grams a day) it will likely cause heartburn, gas, stomachache, burning in the mouth.

If you have a heart condition, diabetes, and gallstones, also if you are pregnant or about to have any surgery you should talk to your doctor before taking ginger supplements.
