Dogs That are Similar to Pitbulls

Dogs That are Similar to Pitbulls: American Pit Bull Terriers and dogs that resemble them have a reputation for stirring up a lot of debate among dog owners. While some people consider dogs to be the kindest animals on earth and to be their most devoted companions, others have had difficulties with dogs.

It might be useful to be aware of other dogs that resemble pit bulls and share many of their traits if you adore the appearance and temperament of a pit bull. They are surprisingly prevalent. There are tons of them!

Dogs That are Similar to Pitbulls

1. American Bulldog

The American Bulldog has the same reputation for having a stocky, powerful physique as the Pit Bull. American Bulldogs and ordinary Pit Bulls are almost the same height, if not occasionally taller. Pit Bulls typically reach a height of 21 inches while Bulldogs can reach a height of up to 28 inches.

They are incredibly agile while being muscular. American Bulldogs are now useful dogs for working on a farm or ranch to find stray livestock as a result of this coupling. Because they are bright, they may exhibit a stubborn tendency. However, they are incredibly devoted to their owners and often very affectionate, which makes them reasonably easy to teach with strict constancy. They do best if they can be given a daily task or are with an active family because they require a lot of exercise.

2. Bull Terrier

Another pup in the same dog family as the Pit Bull is the Bull Terrier. Due to its oval-shaped face and tiny, pointed ears, the Bull Terrier is one of the breeds with the most distinctive appearance. They are both about 22 inches tall, low to the ground, and heavily muscled, but they share a similar build.

These dogs are highly active, therefore unless the family is very active, they don’t like being maintained in small homes or apartments. They make ideal pets for a larger family because they require a lot of attention and don’t like to be left alone for an extended period of time. Because they are so adorable, they are noted for having silly personalities.

3. Cane Corso

Despite not officially belonging to the Terrier family, the Cane Corso shares the Pit Bull’s general demeanor and appearance. They are Italian mastiffs that were originally developed as ferocious hunters.

These days, because of their intense loyalty to their family and intolerance to strangers, they make ideal security dogs. The dog is far more athletic and nimble when compared to Mastiffs, which more closely resembles Terriers. It is, however, much larger, standing 28 inches tall and weighing up to 120 pounds.

4. Boxer

Depending on their genetic makeup, boxers can resemble pit bulls. They typically stand at around 25 inches tall, only a few inches taller than the typical Pit Bull, and have comparable color patterns. These dogs are quite muscular and in good shape, and they have recognizable square jaws.

These puppies like having fun, but they also have a tendency to cause mischief due to their inquisitive nature. They can be trained to make excellent protection dogs and are wonderfully affectionate canines.

5. Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Another variety of Pit Bulls are Staffordshire Bull Terriers, which are still a unique breed. Even though they are only a little over 16 inches tall at their tallest, they are nonetheless very powerful.

Due to their fierce glare and chiseled bodies, they exude a harsh feeling and spook others. However, as is frequently the case with Pit Bulls, these dogs’ imposing demeanor is a cover for a dedicated family pet who is a caring friend.

6. Dogo Argentino

Dogo Argentino is built like a Pit Bull and has a similar facial structure, but his coloration is distinct. These dogs are recognizable by their all-white coats, which cover their entire bodies. They were created for big-game hunting and protection, as their name implies, and were originally bred in Argentina.

Bravery and protection were bred deep into the DNA of this dog. The dog is described as “cheerful, humble, and friendly” by the AKC. They blend in seamlessly with practically any family environment and eagerly participate in all activities since they are glad to be with their loved ones.

7. Bullmastiff

Another dog that is not a Terrier but rather a member of the Mastiff family is the Bullmastiff. They have a similar physique type to Pit Bulls, but having a distinct face shape and more inclined to drool due to their hanging jowls. They can weigh up to 120 pounds and reach a height of 25 to 27 inches as adults.

Initially developed in England to guard game threatened by poachers. They have a serious disposition and can be firm. They continue to be devoted to their pack and their protection and are loyal and loving family dogs despite this.

8. Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog

The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog stands out for its unusual color pattern of white and grey-blue with black dots of various sizes. They can reach a height of 26 inches and have broad shoulders, making them quite an imposing dog to run into. Agility is highly regarded in their breeding despite their strong size.

These canines have the appearance of large bodyguards who are serious about providing protection. The adults and kids in their “pack” are the objects of their love and possessiveness, whereas strangers are avoided. They exhibit a domineering attitude toward other animals if they are not properly socialized.

9. Presa Canario

The Presa Canario is a dog that belongs to the mastiff breed and has a unique color pattern. They are just little larger than the Pit Bull, with a top height of 26 inches, and have the same clumsy structure. They are referred to as complex dogs that need a particular type of owner to manage the show.

The Pit Bull and Presa Canario are comparable in size and look, but the Presa Canario lacks the Pit Bull’s concealed sweetness. Since they were bred to hunt livestock and kill other dogs, they require a significant degree of socialization and training. Although they are bold, self-assured, and protective dogs, they can be unpredictable around other pets, strangers, and occasionally even young children.

10. English Bulldog

The English Bulldog has a powerful exterior and a similar attitude to the Pit Bull, while not having the same outward appearance as the other dogs on the list. They are a delightful combination of pleasant disposition and wrinkled face. The English Bulldog is a predictable breed that gets along exceptionally well with kids, unlike the Presa Canario.

The English Bulldog has less endurance than the Pit Bull and other high-energy Terriers, therefore they only require a moderate amount of activity to keep healthy. Despite sharing the same appearance as pit bulls, these dogs are smaller, reaching a maximum height of 16 inches as opposed to a pit bull’s maximum height of 21 inches.
