Saudi Arabia reported a little decrease in the number of new coronavirus (Covid-19) cases on Wednesday which stood at 1,363 as against 1,409 recorded on Tuesday.
There were 36 virus-related deaths during the past 24 hours as the total number of recoveries reached 274,091, health ministry spokesman Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdel Ali was quoted by Saudi Press Agency (SPA) as saying. The spokesman also confirmed the recovery of 1,180 people as of Wednesday (Aug, 18).
The minister also added that there are 25,089 active cases in the country, of which 1,725 are critical.
Jazan with 109 cases topped the list of new corona infections on Wednesday. It was followed by 106 cases in Makkah, 57 in Madinah, 56 in Jeddah, 52 in Hafr Al-Batin, 49 in Riyadh, 48 in Hufof, 45 in Sabya, 44 each in Abha and Abu Arish, 36 in Dammam, 35 in Taif, 31 each in Hail and Samtah, 29 in Yanbu, 27 in Al Mobarraz, 26 in Khamis Mashayt, and 24 in Baish.
The rest of the cases were scattered in different cities and governorates across the Kingdom, the spokesman said.
Saudi Arabia will continue distance learning measures for students during the first seven weeks of the new academic year and will review a return to schools later on, the ministry of education said on Sunday.
Saudi Arabia suspended all schools, universities and educational institutions since March 9 as part of efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus outbreak and instituted distance learning via online tools as an alternative.
