Saudi Arabia is imposing a 24-hour curfew and lockdown on the cities of Riyadh, Dammam, Tabuk, Hofuf and Dhahran and throughout the governorates of Jeddah, Taif, Qatif and Khobar, All entries to and exit from these cities and governorates are banned, the SPA reports citing a source from the ministry.
Makkah and Madinah is already under a 24-hour daily curfew.
“This action comes within the framework of the efforts undertaken by the Kingdom to confront the covid-19 pandemic and in implementation of the recommendations of the competent health authorities to raise the degree of precautionary and preventive measures in order to preserve the health and safety of People,” the source was quoted as saying by the Saudi Press Agency.
The decision will not be imposed on persons and groups working in the vital industries within the public and private sectors (security, military and media & health services), the interior source added.
Citizens and residents will be allowed to leave their homes only for essential needs like food and health care within the neighborhood area they are a resident of from 6 am to 3 pm daily during the 24-hour curfew.
Only 2 person, including the driver will be allowed inside a vehicles when heading out for urgent needs during the full lock-down, interior ministry said. The journey’s can only be within the neighborhood areas where the residents are registered at, authorities added.
The Ministry of Interior (MOI) called upon everyone that the exit is for adults only and that is in necessary cases so as to ensure that children are not exposed to the causes of transmission. It urged all citizens and expatriates to use express delivery services through smart phone Apps to order for home delivery of food and medical supplies.
The confirmed cases of covid-19 in Saudi Arabia reached 2,523 in the last 24 hours as the death toll rose to 38, announced by the Ministry of Health.
